In Switzerland, millions of pack of unexpired, unopened medicine are thrown away every year in an estimated worth of up to 1 billion CHF.
The estimated value of unused, expired and surplus medications in the EU exceeds €7 billion annually.
These surplus medicines are usually incinerated, due to costs and regulatory issues.

Transforming surplus medicines

Improving access and
Sustainability

Sharemed Swiss is pioneering in reimagining the cycle of medication access to underserved people. We want to do it by looking at new ways of creating value from the wasted. Rather than disposing of surplus or leftovers, we design alternatives to give them a new life. Progressing together with you on “creating value from the wasted” journey, we are utilising ambitions, innovations and transformation experiences of all kind. Sustainability matters, the social, economic and environmental benefits that its advance entails.

Who we are

We are a Swiss NGO, medicine and health product donation experts, re-distributor of surplus medicine and health products.

Powered by technology, ShareMed  Swiss helps organisations like manufacturers, pharmacies, hospitals, elderly homes to revitalise, reallocate unused, leftover medicine and health products and get them to where it’s needed most.

ShareMed Swiss is pioneering to develop the circular economy by transforming surplus, unopened in-date reusable medicine stocks that patients can easily access.

Unused, surplus medicines, other health products in health systems can be responsibly collected and re-distributed to patients struggling with medication insecurity. Tons of medicine can be saved.

By giving surplus medicines a new lease of life, through effective management of resources and preventing wastage we aim to ensure that everyone has access to the medicines they need.

Millions of people don’t take their medication because either they can’t afford it, or they are simply not accessible. Many places in the World, people are making choices between medications or food, home, education. It doesn’t have to be like this. ShareMedSwiss provides access to medicines so everyone gets the care they deserve. Many of lives can be changed.

Environment

Experts estimate that 70% of waterways are contaminated with pharmaceutical runoff. More than 600 pharmaceutical molecules detected in water and soil worldwide; 30% to 90% of active ingredients are found in the environment, impact fauna and flora in the food chain, making long lasting effect on human health.

Circularity

The shift to circular economy helps shape a more resilient, sustainable system in which waste is minimised, products and materials are kept in use at the highest value possible, and natural systems are regenerated. By following fundamental tenets of circularity—using less, using longer, using again and making clean—path the way towards a more sustainable future.
